My Firefighter; Ode to Dr. Ashraf Hanna; By: Natalia Rijos

Fire fighters

Most fight physical fire,

watching black clouds of smoke form in place of the fire.

But some are very special. Very special.

Some fight the fire within the person.

The fire that affects their whole body leaving them paralyzed in pain.

To be able to fight the agonizing fire within someone else,

You need to have a burning passion to fight for them yourself.

It is only known of two doctors in the state of Florida,

With that type of fire.

One of which is mine.

The fire in me had crumbling to ashes, but we found a firefighter who helped put out my fire.

He worked and worked, pumping water till my fire was tamed.

I unwillingly let the fire spread.

Thankfully though he didn’t give up,

But instead called for backup.

Eventually, time went by each second feeling as if it were a year,

But slowly the fire shrank and shrank

After what felt like an eternity,

The fire diminished to the size of a lighter,

I couldn’t have done it without my firefighter.
